Description
This small rainbow patina pendant from the Boldly Unique Collection features an amethyst stone. It is set in sterling and fine silver. The Sterling silver has been patinated with a special process. It gives a multicolored look to the surface of the silver. The colors can range from red to yellow to green as well as purple. Consequently, this creates a contrast between the multicolored body of the pendant and the brighter white color of the fine silver binding around the framework. Amethyst goes particularly well with the rainbow patina of this piece.

What Is A Rainbow Patina? Getting Technical
A rainbow patina is a type of oxidation that is applied to the surface of this piece. It is actually achieved by applying heat from a flame to the surface of the metal. It can also be referred to as a “heat patina”. The metal starts to show a variety of colors on the surface naturally, and then the heat is taken away.
Normally this type of patina is not possible to apply to silver. It is made possible by an extremely thin coating of copper applied to the surface of the silver before the patination begins. After cooling, a durable sealant is applied to prevent the patina from changing over time.
